two from today

First, John Paul's been snacking on crabapples (really teeny marble-sized ones) that he picks off a tree outside the school front door.  Today he planted the seed in our front yard and he's hopeful for some real growth here... this guy's "nature smart" score is off the charts and he spent a long time getting the soil just right and his seed ready to go.

He is my bug-toting, leaf-noticing, seed-planting boy and I wonder where that will take him in life.

I got some great hours with one of my favorite homeschooled friends today and my school-going kids were so thrilled that she was still here when I picked them up at 3.  John Paul and Luke both consider Claire a dear friend, even though she's much closer in age to the big sisters :). And late afternoon I found them piled on the bed (or rather, Lydia piled on Claire) reading and knitting and just enjoying one another's company.

The girls started swim team this week and John Paul's soccer team scored (!!!!!) and we are headed out for a weekend camping trip tomorrow.  October is off to a great start!

John Paul, you would not be the first farmer in your family.

Good point, Granddaddy. Your Grandfather Buck was a lifelong farmer raising cotton, corn and hay, milking cows, and then, later in life, herding cattle. Your Grandfather Clinton helped his father raise tobacco as a young man and as an adult each year he planted, tended and harvested a bountiful home garden when he was otherwise not occupied tending to the medical needs of his patients. You are following in some hallowed footsteps!
