fourth of July

{another attempt to catch up on the blog... }

What a treat to celebrate the Fourth here with people who understand our multi-cultural world.  We sure do love America, and it's tremendous privilege to pull out that blue passport every time we pass border control.

We started with a morning trip to the pool with friends.

And then early afternoon the girls got busy in the kitchen.  Both of them wanted to enter the bake-off at our evening event and had some work to do!  My mom was there to provide limited support as it needed to be "their work".

Lydia created this Betsy Ross flag cake - and entered it in the patriotic category (the only kid to enter in the category!)

Julianna (and her friend Sarah) and their entries in the "kids" category.

and then after dinner they announced the winners and Lydia WON her category!  She was thrilled!

Water balloon fights and face painting :)

A first for the little boys - 4th of July in America.

Lots of friends and big grassy fields and water guns too.

it was a great night capped off with some great fireworks

Great 4th of July celebration - such fun! And Lydia did all that cake decorating herself - she washed the berries, cut them and arranged them with only minor need for suggestions on how to begin the layout!
