I was worried that the crowds on this holiday weekend would make for a tricky experience but it wasn't crowded at all! Threatening skies and cooler temps? maybe that's what scared visitors away but let me tell you, they missed out big time!
[Looking at a deer with john paul]
It was a gorgeous day.
Except for that short time when we were caught it a crazy hard downpour - and kept hiking anyways. I did have a "Matt, we are up here with a 4 year old and a 5 year old. It's raining. We are two hours away from the trailhead. What exactly are we doing?!!?" moment.
But Matt said, "keep hiking, that's what we are doing." So we did.
And we arrived at the summit just as the last drops were falling and the sun came out and the panoramic views of stunning peaks were breathtaking.
And this is Colorado. So we dried out quickly. And ate our lunch snacks and exclaimed over the view over and over again.
This hike (Deer Mountain Summit) was Mom's favorite so far. It really is a rewarding hike. The trail is nice and not too steep (except for a few parts).
Bonus points if you hike with new friends (Lydia and Natalie).
Matt and Dad and Kirk took the long way down (and Luke went with them) while the rest of us headed back to the cars. We found the guys at the other end of the trail and headed into Estes Park for dinner.
whew. what a great day.
