So Lydia decided she wanted a Dolphin Birthday Party. Exactly what she means by this is evolving every minute ...... but she's having fun dreaming :) And I'm having fun letting her dream :)
We've chosen a time (Saturday afternoon/evening) and a location (our house - this is a DOLPHIN party, not a POOL party) and a guest list (the younger girls from the families we see the most often).
This afternoon she decided it was time to think decorations. I showed her a couple of dolphin images online, she picked her favorite and we started printing. She and Isaac got very serious and worked hard making a DOLPHIN Happy Birthday banner.
Julianna opted to do her own thing (no surprise here) and made her own dolphin banner which she added to the huge collection of things she hangs above her bed - being on the bottom bunk gives her additional decorating space and she takes her responsibility seriously!
And then the little boys.... of course they were right in the thick of it. Lydia was quick to share the decorating supplies with them. And also quick to clarify (with me, privately) that she was NOT going to be using their dolphins as part of her banner!
No worries Lydia. These ridiculously goofy boys were perfectly happy to make banners of their own. Our hole punch got plenty of mileage and Luke toted his banner all over the house until he finally decided to tape it to the window above his bed. He cannot write his name but loves for me to write it on everything he creates - and he insists that I write the numeral 3 next to it, because he is THREE, and he is very proud to be THREE.
Details still to work out include the cake, the entertainment, the menu... basically everything :) I kinda think a cake with blue icing might lend well to the dolphin theme but at this point she's still voting chocolate. She's also thinking something in the mexican realm for dinner which is perfect for me since most every mexican dish falls in the quick and easy category (assuming I have tortillas and black beans and cheese and salsa in the freezer. which i do.)
It's fun for me that planning this party is bringing her so much joy. She certainly brings much joy to me - almost 8 years of JOY!
No one knows exactly how this party is going to turn out, but I've no doubt she's going to have a GREAT day regardless!

A dolphin party sounds like great fun I suggest filling the living room with blue balloons, so that all of the dolphin-guests can have a place to swim and play. Can't wait to see pictures.
Can't wait to hear all about your fun sounding party, Lydia. And can't wait to skype to wish you a happy birthday. Love you so much.
Oh, Lydia, I had blue frosting on my birthday cakes for years!!! Great color- for dolphins and for eating. Happy 8th birthday time!!!love bn
Kids are quite creative. Preparing the cards and drawings in a superb way. Almost all the event halls for rent have a unique interior. Want to book one with a vintage look to impress my grandmother for her 60th birthday. Will invite all her dear ones to make her feel special. Catering menu will be of her choice and also order sugar free sweets.
